Ford Transit 2.2 TDCi Injectors Over Fuelling Problem
The injectors over fueling in Ford Transit engines has become a commonly known engine problem, including with the Transit 2.2 TDCi engine. The injectors are not actually at fault, instead it is the ECU that causes the problem. The problem is that there is more diesel being delivered than required, causing issues with the engine liners. The bores are being washed of oil, allowing them to become more and more scratched over time and causing the engine to lose compression as a result. Occasionally, the pistons can even be softened and fracture due to heat exposure caused by the excess diesel combustion on the top surface of the piston. In short, the ECU sends too much fuel and the excess burns outside of the combustion chamber causing heat damage.
Ford Transit 2.2 TDCi Timing Problem
The engine timing problem almost never exists on its own. The usual scenario is a lack of maintenance. Engine oil starvation caused by lack of care is a massive problem damaging camshafts, crankshafts and bearings and also causing the timing chain tensioner malfunction. Inadequate quality of oil makes the tensioner softer which in turn allows the timing chain to jump. This Ford Transit Engine always has extensive damage caused on such an occasion. Not only are valves bent but the cylinder head can be damaged, pistons damaged etc.

Ford Transit 2.2 TDCi engine is amongst the most popular engines we sell. The 2.2 TDCi engines are always fitted with brand new ( not reconditioned but factory new ) oil pump, timing chain, timing tensioner and piston rings. The other components like timing cover and oil sump are replaced with brand new when required. Transit 2.2 TDCi Engine Quality Reconditioning
The engine block of this Transit 2.2 TDCi engine is always honed or rebored and oversized pistons used. Some blocks require re-sleeving due to injector problem - scoring of cylinders. The other pistons are OK but one cylinder liner must be replaced as the engine problem was caused by an over fueling injector. The Ford Transit 2.2 TDCi engines are usually dispatched within 24-48 hours from when the order is placed for fast delivery. What must be stressed here is that the timing, however set, must be checked and all bolts tightened by installer of the engine together with diesel pump refitting.

Ford Transit 2.2 TDCi ECU can be programmed correctly by Ford Main Dealer. Here at Engine Engineering we do not have knowledge about any company apart of Ford Main Dealer which is capable to program those ECU's correctly in cause of the fault. Make sure that yours is not causing damage to your newly purchased reconditioned Ford Transit 2.2 TDCi Engine. Over Fueling Injector will cause the damage which is not covered by the warranty ( the over fueling is not a fault of the engine but the fault of the auxiliary equipment causing the damage of the engine ). If in doubt then seek advice from specialising workshop. Just normal oil and filter exchange garage may not be even aware that such problem exists.
