THE BMW N20B20 ENGINE


In production since 2011, the BMW N20 engine family are straight-4 turbocharged direct injection petrol engines. The N20B20 is the successor of the N52 AND N53 engines.

The BMW N20 was awarded in the Wards Top 10 Engines of 2012 due to its efficiency compared to the straight-6 prior engines.

COMMON PROBLEMS / FAULTS / ERRORS WITH THE BMW N20 ENGINES


Here at Engine Engineering we find it useful to advise on any common faults or problems relating to engines. With the BMW N20 family we have seen quite a few, however the only common fault we have came across was noticed do to high fuel consumption. Through the reconditioning of the engines we have found that this is due to a problem with the air flow meter. Although this may not seem alarming other than the excess cost of fuel, we highly recommend getting this fault corrected as soon as possible. The increased fuel flowing through the engine may not combust correctly causing a build up for carbon and other molecules within the engine that can cause damage and in extreme cases complete engine failure.
