The Mini Hatch has been in production since the year 2000 and has currently gone through three generations of vehicle. The classification that the Mini Hatch comes under is a "super-mini".

MINI HATCH 1st Generation
(R50/53)- (2000-2006)

This was the first Mini to begin production after the original mini marque was discontinued. The styling of this new was inspired by, and took innovation from the original mini. The retro design features, quirky design and large choice of customization in terms of colours and styling makes the mini a very attractive vehicle to customers.

This generation of Mini Hatch received a facelift in the year of 2004, in the same year the convertible variant of the Mini Hatch became available, resulting in the original first generation body design not being available in a convertible style.

The Tritec Engine used across the range of Minis was manufactured in Brazil and was made in a cooperation between BMW and Chrysler.

The Engines available for the first generation of Mini are as follows;

• 1.4L Tritec L4- Used in the Mini One
  
• 1.4L Toyota 1ND-TV diesel- Used in the Mini One D
  
• 1.6L Tritec L4- Used in the Mini One and in the Mini Cooper
  
• 1.6L Tritec supercharged L4- Used in the Mini Cooper S

MINI HATCH 2nd GENERATION
(R56)- (2006-2013)

This generation of the Mini Hatch uses the Prince Engine. This is an engine which is developed in cooperation between BMW and PSA Citreoen. It is a straight-4 engine and replaced the Tritec Engine which was used in the previous generation of Mini Hatch.

Initially this generation was available in in the One, Cooper and the Cooper S variants. A range of variations of the Mini Hatch were introduced during this generation including the first Diesel variation of the engine becoming available. This generation contained new design elements which improved the safety of the vehicle and other exterior changes such as redesigned Grill were made.


The range of engines available for this generation of Mini are as follows;

• 1.4 L Prince L4- Used in the Mini One
  
• 1.6 L Prince/BMW N16 L4- Used in the Mini Cooper
  
• 1.6 L Prince turbo L4- Used in the Mini Cooper S
  
• 1.6 L Peugeot DV6 diesel L4- Used in the Mini Cooper D and the Mini Cooper One D
  
• 2.0 L BMW N47 diesel L4- Used in the Mini Cooper SD

A Mini First was also introduced in this generation which is a version of the Mini One but with a lower output 1.6L Engine.

The Mini John Cooper Works began in the year of 2008 and was essentially a version of teh Mini Cooper S but with engines with increased output.

MINI HATCH - 3rd GENERATION
(F56)- (2014-)

This generation of Mini is larger in dimension than the previous Mini and introduces a range of engines which are available. These Engines are as follows;

• Petrol 1.2L turbocharged L-3- Used in the Mini One
  
• Petrol 1.5L turbocharged L-3 - Used in the Mini Cooper
  
• Diesel 1.5L turbodiesel L-3- Used in the Mini One-D and the Mini Cooper-D
  
• Petrol 2.0L turbocharged L-4- Used in the Mini Cooper S (and John Cooper Works) Vehicle
  
• Diesel 2.0L turbodiesel L-4- Used in the Mini Cooper SD

The Mini Clubman began production in the year of 2007 and was launched in the year of 2008. This model comes under the classification of an "estate car". The Engines used in this particular model are very similar to the range available with the Mini Hatch R56. They are as follows;

MINI COUNTRYMAN ENGINES

The Mini Countryman comes under the classification of a "compact crossover SUV" and began production in the year of 2010. Since then in the year of 2014 the car received a facelift. The Engines available for the Mini Countryman are as follows;

• Petrol- 1.6 L L4- available in the One and Cooper variants
  
• Petrol- 1.6 L Prince turbocharged L4-available in the Cooper S variants

A concept vehicle based on the Mini Countryman known as the Mini Paceman was shown in 2011. It comes under the classification of a Mini SUV.

MINI COUPE ENGINES

The Mini Coupé was designed to be a sports car and was released in the year of 2011. The Mini Coupe' is based on the Mini Cabriolet and has a Petrol 1.6 L L4 and Diesel 2.0 L L4 available. The Convertible version of this car is entitled the Mini Roadster.
