COMMON FIAT 1.3L MULTIJET ENGINE FAULTS
There has been a serious problem / fault with this engine that has came to our attention . On 1.3 MultiJets engines driven short distances the particulate filter clogs up and the extra fuel introduced to the combustion chambers to burn off the particulates ends up in the sump, contaminating the sump oil and eventually raising its level to a point where the engine starts running on its sump oil, and because it's a compression ignition engine, the engine cannot be stopped. Owners are warned on page 94 of the handbook that the 'oil exhausted' warning light flashes for about 60 seconds to warn of oil degradation long before the level gets too high so they need to pay attention to this. If you are experiencing this engine problem with your fiat 1.3 MultiJet engine then perhaps an engine reconditioning from Engine Engineering can solve the problem.
Further Fiat 1.3 Multijet Diesel Engine Problems
Our customers have also reported issues with the DPF. This generally only seems to be happening with customers who only use their vehicles for short journeys, the advice from Engine Engineering is to take the vehicle for a long drive on the motorway, you need to get the engine system temperature up to burn off the excess build up, if the problem persists then an oil change and filter change will be required. Please note we can supply DPF / DPF injectors for your Fiat 1.3L Multijet engine but this is not usually included within a quoted engine reconditioning service.
