In 2014 Volkswagen announced that a new diesel engine will be coming in 2015 Passat's, Golf's, Jetta's and Beetle models replacing the 2.0L TDI engine. This motor has been designated EA288 and is a turbocharged common-rail direct injection four cylinder.

KNOWN VOLKSWAGEN 2.0L TDI ENGINE PROBLEMS

In some older models there is a known problem with the oil pump chain drive which may require conversion to a completely different system to avoid serious engine damage. We advise you speak to your local dealership as this is a serious issue on high mileage units (>50000m)
